I challenge myself when talking with someone on the phone, who is using a script, to transition the conversation away from their script. I like to ask them where I am calling to and how their weather is. I am then able to ask them if they attend a church in their area. I have been amazingly blessed on the conversation that follows. We too fall into the script rut when talking with others–being ‘what people’ and need to get out of the rut and become the ‘why people’ seeking to build relationships, even with those on the other end of the phone.
