Danny Recommends: Displays2go Poster Holder
Every so often we dip our toes into a series called Danny Recommends:, posts that tip you off to the stuff that I…you know. The recommendations might be products for use in your ministry, resources that will help you develop leaders around you, or just fun stuff that you need. Want. Whatever. I have a full list of recommended books and such over at the Reading List, but these posts will go into further detail. For other posts in the series, check out the link at the bottom.
Previously on Danny Recommends:, I’ve introduced you to some of my favorite signage hardware, like the Signicade Deluxe and the Klvied sign holder. Signicade is good enough and sturdy enough for outdoor usage, and the Klvied is lightweight enough and portable enough for indoor applications.
But for visibility and portability, we’re turning to Displays2go’s 22″ x 69″ Floor Standing Poster Holder more and more.
I almost titled this post “Danny Recommends: Tallboys,” because that’s our affectionate moniker for the things. We’ve called ’em Tallboys for so long, I forgot that wasn’t actually their name (Editor’s note: it ain’t actually their name.).
Here’s why I like them:
- Visible. At nearly six feet high, these things are not going to get overlooked in your typical church lobby. We place them outside of classrooms, special event rooms, at at the top of a hallway to give directions or identification.
- Interchangeable. Because they’re frames, we can have as many inserts as we want. We’ll use the same frame for Explore the Summit one week, Guest Services Training the next, and Become a Member the next.
- (Somewhat) storeable. Yes, they take up room. Yes, the double-sided base is stable but also carries a footprint. But we’ve learned that if we snug up two bases face-to-face, we can stack and nest a third base in between. Win win.
Now, the poster stands are not the perfect product. Let me give you a couple of caveats as you consider:
- They’re not great outdoors. We have used
TallboysPoster Stands outside, but that’s not necessarily the ideal use. The slightest wind gusts tips ’em over. If you plan to go outside, you need a weight of some sort. (We’ve used our First-Time Guest Tent sandbags in a pinch.) - There’s extra “stuff” we don’t use. All Poster stands come with two PVC “lenses” and a backer…basically designed for a super-thin custom-printed poster that sits on top of each side of the backer and is protected by the lens. That’s a lot of work for a poster that’s going to get creased and crumpled the minute it’s out of the frame. We’ve opted for a Coroplast print that’s a bit sturdier and – at 4 mm thick – fills out the interior of the frame quite nicely.
By the way, that insert is something we source locally through our printer. They know our specs and know when we order a – dare I say it – Tallboy insert – it’s going to be on that Coroplast material.
