Top Ten Quotes: The Discipline of Grace
Almost two decades ago, I stumbled across a book called The Discipline of Grace: God’s Role and Our Role in the Pursuit of Holiness. That book was – as the kids say – a game changer.

The Discipline of Grace was my gateway to other books by the late Jerry Bridges through the years, but I recently returned to my original find for a second deep dive, and I found it to be even more compelling this time around.
Here are my top ten favorite quotes:
- …the pursuit of holiness must be anchored in the grace of God.
- We should always view ourselves both in terms of what we are in Christ, that is, saints, and what we are in ourselves, namely, sinners.
- [W]e must by faith bring the verdict of conscience into line with the verdict of Heaven.
