Sunday Morning Fashion Show
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the Summit offices.
Most of the pastors at the Brier Creek AM campus arrive somewhere between 7:00 and 7:30 on Sunday morning. It’s a good quiet time to answer a few e-mails, make a few copies, and get our heads screwed on straight before the onslaught of setting up tents and tables and prepping for our big events of the day.
For some reason, there are only men-type folk in the offices during that time, which is what makes the following so weird.
Almost every Sunday morning, we launch into fashion show routine. Here are a smattering of comments you’ll typically hear:
“Do these pants work okay with this sweater?”
“What do you think…is this shirt too busy?”
“Is my collar doing what my collar feels like it’s doing?”
And my favorite from Spence just yesterday… “I switched to a v-neck last week. Best decision of my life.”
I have to be honest, Sunday Fashion Shows haven’t been as much fun since the main clothes horses of the staff (namely Brad and Charlie) have gone off to West Club and Brier Creek PM. Those guys knew how to accessorize, and they always made us look good.
Are you listening, seminary presidents? We need real classes on real issues…not that systematic hermeneutical mumbo-jumbo. Let’s teach the next generation of pastors how to not only preach well, but dress well. I’d be happy to teach it, but right now my collar feels like it’s doing something it probably shouldn’t be.
So you guys decided to make things easier this past weekend and wear the same shirt? Uniforms may not be a bad idea. 🙂
