Danny Recommends: Bible Reading Plan Generator
Every so often we dip our toes into a series called Danny Recommends:, posts that tip you off to the stuff that I…you know. The recommendations might be products for use in your ministry, resources that will help you develop leaders around you, or just fun stuff that you need. Want. Whatever. I have a full list of recommended books and such over at the Reading List, but these posts will go into further detail. For other posts in the series, check out the link at the bottom.
As we round the bend towards the end of the year, you might be thinking ahead to what your Bible reading plan is going to be for the next trip around the sun. Especially if you’re a planning nerd who tends to overthink everything and suck the joy out of the lives of those around you.
Or maybe that’s just me.
By now, you know the drill: Jesus followers love to start fresh with Genesis 1 on January 1, but by the time February 1 rolls around and Leviticus 1 drops, we panic in the face of rules about mold.
But a reading plan is important…if nothing else, because it gives you some mechanical goals to shoot for as you show up each day, developing your organic relationship with the God of the universe. I’ve shared a few Bible reading plan options for you in the past, which you can see here:
- Plan the Read, Read the Plan
- Now is the Time to Pick Your Bible Reading Plan
- Danny Recommends: Psalms in Six Months
However, if you want a truly customizable, move-at-your-own pace plan, I want to introduce you to Bible Reading Plan Generator.
BRPG is a fascinating little tool I found earlier this year, and have already used to generate a couple of different personal reading plans that I have worked through. The concept is simple: pick a start date, set the number of days that you want to move through your reading (anywhere from 1 to 365 to way beyond), and pick the book or books you want to tackle.
Want to do the traditional Bible-in-a-year thing? BRPG can do it. Want to read the New Testament in a month? BRPG has you covered. Want to realllllllly stretch out 3 John and savor it over the spring? Well, maybe set better goals, boo. Because you’re going to finish that on day one and need to repeat some stuff.
BRPG (apparently) uses a pretty simple algorithm to take your intended reading and divvy it up over intended days. For the plan that I’m currently working on, it has me in 1-2 chapters per day.
Now, a caveat: BRPG also gives you the option of including Deuterocanonical works in your reading. And while I wouldn’t personally recommend that for your quiet times, you can do whatever floats your Baruch. (#didyouseewhatididthere)

Disclaimer: FTC watchdogs will probably want to know that the vendors listed / linked above did not ask for this endorsement, nor did they provide me with free swag in order to do so. I’m just a really satisfied fan who wants to let you know about helpful things. I only promote items that have benefitted me and that I believe will benefit you. So there.
